What is a region?
a distinctive area of Earth’s surface, set apart from other areas by human or natural carecteristics
What is a uniform region?
A region where all locations share a charecterisitc. ex: vegetation (grassland, tundra, desert)
What is a Functional Region
There are interacttions among different areas within the region
What is a Cultural Region
Region based on a sense of belonging, where there is a bond between the people and the region (Quebec)
What is the Centralist vs. Decentralist Visions of Canada faultline?
Relates to the centralization of government power (federal power) vs the decentralization of power (provincial power)
What are a common source of feud in Centralist vs. Decentralist faultline?
Equalization payments (federal government taking money from rich provinces and giving to poor provinces)
What are the 3 reasons that cause the demographic favouring of Ontario and Quebec faultline?
- Majority of Canadians live in Ontario and Quebec
- People in other provinces feel u heard
- No federal party can form a majority government without strong support from the two provinces, therefore parties focus on them more
What was a large factor in BC joining Canada?
The federal government promising to connect them to the railway
Who is responsible for maintaining the Trans-Canada highway?
Provincial governemnts
What is the Great Trail?
System of paths, greenways, waterways, and roads linking all 3 ocean coasts
