2
Q

Explain CCS

A

CO2 molecules are separated from waste gasses, compressed, and injected underground into porous layers of rock and sand that are overlain by an impermeable rock cap.

3
Q

Drawbacks of CCS

A
  1. Expensive
  2. Requires 20% or 1/5 of total generated power.
  3. Seismic activity?
  4. Leaking CO2 can kill people (e.g., Lake Nyos Disaster); continuous monitoring

Q

Waste injection wells in Sarnia

A

Injection well disposal of industrial waste between 1984 and 1985. Unmarked abandoned water wells played a factor in contamination from the injection wells.
