Lec. 8 - Organelles Flashcards
Explain the function of the endomembrane system in protein synthesis.
The endomembrane system uses the RER to synthesize proteins, then the endoplasmic reticulum, then from there to the golgi apparatus, then to vesicle trafficking and protein distribution.
Compare the anatomy and function of the mitochondria and the chloroplast.
Mitochondria are double membrane bound organelles, they are the powerhouses of the cell. Chloroplasts are also double membrane bound organelles, they are used for photosynthesis, and they do oxygen production.
Describe endosymbiosis as it relates to the mitochondria and the chloroplast.
It is a biological theory that explains the origin of eukaryotic cells and certain organelles within them.
Cytoskeleton - describe different molecules that the cytoskeleton is composed of.
It consists of microfilamants, intermediate filaments, and microtubules.
