Lec. 14 - Harvesting Energy Flashcards
What are the 4 stages of cellular respiration?
Glycolysis, pyruvate oxidation, Krebs cycle, and ETC
Explain the difference between substrate-level and oxidative phosphorylation.
In sub-level phospho, ATP is directly synthesized by transferring a phosphate group from a high energy compound to ADP. In oxidative phospho, high energy electrons from NADH and FADH2 transferred through a series of protein complexes in the ETC.
Describe the inputs, outputs, and location of glycolysis.
Inputs are glucose, ATP, and NAD+. Outputs pyruvate, ATP, and NADH. It is located in the cytoplasm of the cell.
Explain the role of fermentation.
Fermentation is an anaerobic metabolic process that allows cells to generate ATP without the use of oxygen.
Explain how chemiosmosis is involved in ATP syth.
It is involved through proton gradient formation, proton flow through ATP synth, ATP synth, and ATP production.
