Lec. 24 - Chromosomal Inheritance Flashcards
Describe a karyotype.
A karyotype is a visual representation or image of an individuals entire set of chromosomes arranged in a specific order.
Describe nondisjunction.
It’s a genetic phenomenon that occurs during cell division particularly during meiosis.
Describe the different sex-chromosome distributions that can occur.
Normal female/male, turner syndrome, klinefelter syndrome, triple X syndrome, XXY syndrome
Explain germ-line cells.
They are specialized cells involved in the production of gametes and the transmission of genetic information from one generation to the next.
Explain trisomy.
It is a chromosomal abnormality characterized by the presence of an additional chromosome, resulting in a total of three copies of a particular chromosome instead of the usual pair of two chromosomes.
