An illness that arises from an infectious agent or its toxic product from an infected person, animal or reservoir.
Communicable disease (duh)
The epidemiologic triangle involves:
Agent, host, environment
disease that occurs occasionally in a population at irregular intervals
sporadic disease
disease continually present in a population at a steady level
endemic disease
a slight increase in the level of disease over endemic level
outbreak
disease acquired by many hosts in a given area in a short time with sudden increase of morbidity
epidemic disease
worldwide epidemic
pandemic disease

Mode of transmission. Requires close association. Portal of entry same as exit.
Direct
Mode of transmission. One person to another through intermediates. Portal of entry same as portal of exit.
Indirect
Epidemic type. Single source characterized by sudden increase in case numbers.
Common-source
Epidemic type. Multiple possible sources and characterized by prolonged but slower rise in case numbers
