What is the function of the Large Intestine Channel?
The function of the Large Intestine is to receive waste material sent down from the small intestine, absorb the fluid content and allow the remainder to be excreted as faeces.
What is the YangMing channel abundant in?
The YangMing channel is abundant in qi and blood. Points of both the arm and leg are used clinically to regulate qi and blood in the limbs.
What does the Large Intestine channel treat?
- Treats disorders of the YangMing channel in the head; this includes the face, cheeks, forehead, eyes, nose, lips, gums and teeth.
- Treats disorders of the ear (Large intestine luo-connecting channel)
- Expels wind, cold and heat from the exterior portion of the body
- clearing wind-heat, interior heat and fire poison from the areas traversed by the channel, especially in in the head
- Clearing yangming fire which disturbs the heart and the spirit
- Assisting the Lung in its function of opening the water passages

What are the actions of LI1?
o Clears heat, reduces swelling and alleviates pain
o Revives consciousness
What are the indications of LI1?
o Throat painful obstruction, dry mouth, deafness, tinnitus
o Loss of consciousness from windstroke.
o Pain of the shoulder and back
o Numbness and heat of the fingers
What is LI2?
Erjian / Second Space
Ying-Spring and water point of the LI
What are the actions of LI2?
Expels wind, clears heat and reduces swelling
Alleviates pain
What are the indications of LI2?
o Toothache, pain and swelling of the lower cheek
o Pain and stiffness of the shoulder and back
What is LI3?
SanJian / Third Space
Shu-Stream and wood point of the LI
What are the actions of LI3?
o Expels wind and heat
o Clears heat and benefits the throat and teeth
o Dispels fullness and treats diarrhoea
What are the indications of LI3?
o Throat painful obstruction. Toothache of the lower jaw
o Acute eye pain.
o Cold or damp diarrhoea
o Acute stiff neck, redness and swelling of the dorsum of the head.
What is LI4?

Yuan-Source point, Gao Wu command point
Ma Dan-Yang Heavenly star point
What are the functions of LI4?
Regulates the defensive qi and adjusts sweating
Expels wind and releases the exterior
Regulates the face, eyes, nose, mouth and ears
Activates the channel and alleviates pain
Induces labour
Restores the yang
What are the indications of LI4?
o Exterior wind cold patterns, chills and fever, copious sweating
o Headache, one sided headache
o Redness, swelling and pain of the eyes
o Toothache
o Throat painful obstruction
o Amenorrhoea, prolonged or delayed labour.
