Who initiates evacuation?
The captain
How do both FC and CC order evacuation?
Flight crew:
- PA: EVACUATE EVACUATE EVACUATE
- Verbal communication from FC entering cabin
- Seatbelt light flashing and/or repeated PA dinging
Cabin crew:
- Call FD before initiating evacuation
- If uncontactable, RESET handset, order evacuation via PA: EVACUATE EVACUATE EVACUATE
- Commence impact drill
What is the land impact drill?
Door primary:
- As directed by captain, commence evacuation commands
- Check door/exit is safe to open
- Open door/exit
- Ensure correct inflation
- Direct passengers
- Take torch, check your area, assist with other areas
- Evacuate
- Assist on ground
- Door unusable - remain, block, redirect and reassess
Door assist:
- As directed by the captain, commence evacuation commands
- Assume role of incapacitated primary
- Establish even flow of passengers to doors/exits
- When all assistance rendered, evacuate
- Assist on ground
If assist is delegated prior to evacuate commands commencing, what statements and acknowledgments are said?
CSM: You are now (L1) primary
CC: I am now (L1) primary
How to relay information throughout plane in an emergency when PA and inter phone are unserviceable?
Use:
- Assist
- ABP
What is the land evacuation prep?
- Captain briefs CSM
- CSM briefs CC (grab Land Preparation Drill Sheet)
- CC move to demonstration positions (if PA unserviceable: give individual briefing in your zone with megaphone, BRACE will be ordered by flashing the seatbelt sign)
- Captain PA
- CSM PA (remove sharp and loose objects, stowing PEDs)
- Secure galleys and stow loose items / equipment
- Check all doors ARMED unless otherwise direct by captain
- Review briefing cards with passengers if necessary (after drink stowage, report to CSM)
- CSM reports to captain when cabin prep is complete
- FC PA: Attention, CC resume your seats immediately
- 30 seconds before touchdown PA: BRACE BRACE BRACE
What is the buddy system in an evacuation?
Repositioning ABP near passengers with additional needs:
- Aged
- Disabled
- Unaccompanied minors
- Parents travelling with more than one child each
What are reasons to reposition passengers?
- To vaccate seat for supernumerary FC member
- To be further from danger zone
- To move passengers closer to intended exits
- To establish buddy system
Who are ideal ABP?
- Positioning airline crew
- Military personnel
- Police or security personnel
- People who respond to authority
What drinks to gather and stow?
Ones with no alcohol or caffeine: stow in secure accessible stowage ie. galley stowage
What is the alert phase?
- Used if safety of the aircraft on the ground is needed
- Prevents evacuation until engines are shut down and/or gives FC time to assess the situation
How is the alert phase signalled?
PA: Attention! All passengers remain seated and await further instructions
How long is the duration of alert phase?
Several minutes
If the aircraft is still moving while alert PA is given, do CC remain seated with harness on?
Yes
If aircraft is still in alert phase, what is the procedures?
- Stand by exit
- Check outside aircraft
- Be ready to act on any new PA
- Report non-normal conditions to FD (1 attempt only) (tell CSM if FD busy)
- Maintain control of passengers
- Await captains instruction
