Operation

1. Push up red catch
2. Aim at the base of fire
3. Squeeze the handle
4. Sweep the flames
5. All burnt non-electrical material should be soaked in water
1.5-2m ideally
Hold within 60 degrees of vertical
Minimum of 10 secs
Precautions
PBE worn
If used of FD - use oxygen masks seat at 100%
No part of metal contacts live wires
Don’t get to close to fluid fires
Not as effective on combustible metal fires

Essex PBE check?
PSC
Tamper prevention integrity seal intact. Check humidity indicator is blue in colour
Pink = Notify CSM/FC
Precautions
Remove objects around head
Contain long hair inside of hood
Don hood promotly after activation (minimise toxins in the hood)
If hood collaspes, take off and put a new one on
Don’t remove hoods while by sparks/open flame
Obtaining
Slide lid latch and pull box lid open sharply
Grasp yellow nylon strap and pull from conatiner
Tear open pouch
Unfold enough to reveal oxygen cylinders
Grasp securely (one in each hand), ensure valves are facing away from users body
Operation
Snap two cylinders apart, activating service/end of service indicator (green light)
Prayer movement of putting hands inside bag and stretch
Bend over and put on
One bottle releases fast and the other slow
Should hear an immediate hissing sound and should be inflated within 2 mins
Duration
8-10 mins flow (enough for min 15)
Red light flashes at end - leave emergency area to remove
Dispose
Lavatory waste bin
Lock lavatory and make Cabin/IFE log
310L Portable Oxygen System check?

Duration
70-75 mins HI flow
Operation Single
1. Plug oronasal mask into outlet
2. Open valve until number 4 is visable in indication window
3. Check Green flow indicator visable
4. Fit oronasal mask
5. Advise CSM and make log in Cabin/IFE log book
6. Check passenger every 15 mins
7. Leave 100psi in cylinder after use (avoid corrosion)
Operation Multi
1. Plug mask into outlet closer to pressure gauge (HI flow)
2. Open valve fully (anticlockwise), then turn back half a turn
3. Check Green flow indicator visable
4. Fit oronasal mask
5. Advise CSM and make log in Cabin/IFE log book
6. Check passenger every 15 mins
7. Leave 100psi in cylinder after use (avoid corrosion)
Precautions
1. Avoid bumping/dropping cylinder
2. No ignition sources within 4 metres of oxygen Equipment
3. Remove makeup from person
4. When administering oxygen, ensure cylinder secured
5. If CC carrying cylinder around cabin, use strap
6. FD oxygen only used as a last resort - Captains approval needed
1000L Portable Oxygen Cylinder check?

1. Conducted by engineering personnel
Description
1. Used for first aid once all 310L bottles are used
Capability
1. 210 mins (3.5hr) on HI
Operation
1. Plug mask into outlet closer to pressure gauge (HI flow)
2. Open valve fully (anticlockwise), then turn back half a turn
3. Check Green flow indicator visable
4. Fit oronasal mask
5. Advise CSM and make log in Cabin/IFE log book
6. Check passenger every 15 mins
7. Leave 100psi in cylinder after use (avoid corrosion)
8. If needed for landing - stow in designated medical oxygen stowage (5K or 13F)
FD Portable Oxygen Cylinder with no mask or mask attached check (EROS)?
Appearance

Capability
1. 310L
2. Can have more than one outlet working
3. Max 15 mins (100% oxygen)
Operation
1. Disconnect FD mask from AC oxygen system (twist and pull)
2. Plug FD mask into EROS outlet
3. Open valve fully (anticlockwise) and turn back half a turn
4. Fit mask
Precautions
1. Avoid bumping/dropping cylinder
2. No ignition sources within 4 metres of oxygen Equipment
3. Remove makeup from person
4. When administering oxygen, ensure cylinder secured
5. If CC carrying cylinder around cabin, use strap
6. FD oxygen only used as a last resort - Captains approval needed
7. Avoid contact with oil/greas
Portable Theraputic Mask check?

2. Do not use as a smoke mask as air inhaled from sides of mask
Operation
1. Fit mask
2. After use but in sick bag and make entry into Cabin/IFE log
Oxygen release tool check?

1. Check if PSU has a round hole
2. Push pointed end into access hole or insert flat end at side of unit
Laerdal pocket mask check?

Description
1. Used when performing rescue breathing
Operation
1. Put on gloves
2. Fit mask
3. Use HI flow
ZOLL automated external defibrillator (AED) check?

1. Present
2. Green tick in status indicator window
Operation
1. Tell captain when it’s in use
2. One pad on right chest and left below chest (patient pov, avoiding heart)
3. In a child one each on middle and back of chest
4. Turn ON (pres child button if need be)
5. Intelex and Cabin/IFE log
Precautions
1. Patient on hard, flat surface
2. Patient not touching metal, water or another person
3. Pads not over pacemakers
4. Medical patches removed from chest area
5. No jewelery in contact
6. Oxygen masks 1m away
Emergency First Aid Kit check?

Description
1. Use if general first aid kit inadequate
Operation
1. Tell CSM if used and log in Cabin/IFE log book
Physicians Kit check?
Appearance
1. Orange bag

1. Present and sealed
2. Expiry date checked
3. Blue metal seal intact (or temporary yellow seal)
Description
1. Can only be opened by CSM or CSS
Operation
1. Inform captain of opening
2. Don’t leave unattended
3. Reseal with yellow seals
4. Make sure doctor fills in physcians report (give patient copy)
5. Ensure doctor fills out s8 drug register if done
6. Intelex report, Cabin/IFE log and medlink patch checklist goes in kit
7. Infant panadol can be given to parents/carers
