Lab Exam- Blood pressure Flashcards

1
Q

What was the purpose of the blood pressure lab?

A

to become familiar with korotkoff sounds, auscultation, and palpation related to blood pressure. Use sphygmomanometer, stethoscope, cardio microphone, and pulse transducer to axes BP. Evaluate how changes in arm position effect pressure recordings

Q

Why do we hear Korotkoff sounds between systolic and diastolic pressure?

A

The vessel is collapsed but opens enough to squirt blood out with each pulse causing turbulent flow and the sound we hear.
when we no longer hear the sound it is due to the pressure being low enough to have laminar flow instead of turbulent flow
