Elements of a fairy tale
- do not need to include faries
- set in the past, usually significantly long ago(or historical fact from past)
- Include fantasy, supernatural or make believe aspects
- typically incorporate clearly defined good characters and evil characters
- involves magic elements which may be magical people, animals, or objects(positive or negative magic)
- may include objects, people, or events in 3’s
- focus the plot on a problem or conflict that may need to be solved
- often have happy endings based on the resolution of conflict or problem
What is a fractured fairy tale
fairy tale designed to be humorous by changing the story in an unexpected way; altering characters or modern events or languages
What is a satire
A literary work that ridicules its subject through the use of techniques such as exaggerations, reversal, incongruity and/or parody in order to make a comment or criticism about it
What is Exaggeration
To enlarge, increase or represent something beyond normal bounds so that it becomes ridiculous and its faults can be seen
What is Incongruity
To present things that are out of place or are absurd in relation to its surroundings
What is Reversal
To present the opposite of the normal order
What is Parody
To imitate the techniques and/or style of some person, place or thing
What is a folk tale
Originally told orally
Help us to know who and what we have been
Often try to explain natural phenomena or describe the life of ordinary people
Often tell us about the story of an area, the values of its people, the way they lived, and what their behaviors and customs were
Elements of a folk tale
Involves a journey or quest Setting is often timeless and vague in location Charters meets challenges or obstacles Naive charters gain wisdom or knowledge Usually offers lesson or moral
What is a myth
a story of unknown authorship that people told long ago in a attempt to answer serious questions about how important things began and occurred. They give values to persons, places or things.
Characteristics of a Myth
- Myths are stories that are told as if they are a fact
- Myths usually have Gods or Goddesses and supernatural powers
- Myths often deal with the creation of the world and natural events
- Myths provide lessons about good and bad behavior
- A metamorphosis may occur (change/transformation)
What is a Creation Myth
They are stories used to explain the creation of the world or the role of people in it. They are a part of peoples culture and explain how we came to be based on the beliefs and values.
