Non standard definition
Language that deviates from the typical strucutres or conventions.
Standard language definition
Language that provides agreed norms of usuage, usually codified in dictionaries and grammars.

Selection outline
An existing language variety is identified as the basis - variety selected is usually that of the most powerful or socially influential social or ethnic group.
Elaboration outline.
Ensuring that the new language can be used for a wide range of functions.

Reduction of internal variability in the selected variety, and the establishment of norms of grammatical usage and vocabulary

The standard language must be given currency by making texts available in it, encouraging users to develop a loyalty and pride in it - disencouraging the use of other languages
