Kidney Flashcards
Nephrotoxicity-
toxic to the kidney
Things that can be nephrotoxic:
Antibiotics
Antineoplastics (Adrimycin, Cisplatin, methotrexate)
Antiinflamatory/analgesics (NSAID, acetominophen)
Diuretics (Organic mecurials)
Immunosuppressants
Dichloro ethane.
Episulfonium
Metallothionein -
A protein that is bound to metals in the liver but then unbound by the kidney and so metals become in high concentrations there and couse Nephrotoxicity.
Halogenated Hydrocarbons Nephrotoxicity-
metabolized in liver to glutathione conjugates, transported to the kidney, and re-activated.
Aminoglycosides—
highly polar cations (reabsorbed by proximal tubule after binding to anionic lipids at cell surface—stored in lysosomes which eventually rupture)
