contact lens wearers
What are the causes of bacterial keratitis?
s. aureus, pseudo, s. pneumo, klebsiella, enterobacteriaeceae
What can also cause bacterial keratitis?
steroid eye drops
What is the CM of bacterial keratitis?
acute red eye, purulent discharge, FB sensation, photophobia, WHITE OPACITY
How do you treat bacterial keratitis?
REFER for topical ABX
How do you dx HSV keratitis?
fluorescein stain
What lesions are seen with HSV keratitis?
dendritic lesions
What infection is related to HSV keratitis?
latent , only 5% primary
Who is at high risk for HSV keratitis?
laser tx w/ UV light
topical eye meds
steroid eye meds
immunosuppressed
What is the presentation of HSV keratitis?
watery vision changes pain photophobia injection near limbus decreased corneal sensation
How do you treat HSV keratitis?
Trifluorothymidine 1% (Viroptic) drops
Ganciclovir 0.15% gel
Can use oral acyclovir (has been studied in HSV keratitis) and other orals such as valacyclovir, famciclovir, ganciclovir (not studied)
