Issue Traffic Advisories Flashcards
(Glossary)
What are traffic advisories?
Advisories issued to alert pilots to other known or observed air traffic which may be in such proximity to the position or intended route of flight of their aircraft to warrant their attention. Advisories are based on:
>visual observation
>observation of radar identification and non identified aircraft targets on an ATC radar display, or
>verbal reports from pilots or other facilities
(Glossary)
Numerous targets vicinity (location)
A traffic advisory issued by ATC to advise pilots that targets on the radar scope are too numerous to issues individually.
(Glossary)
Conflict resolution
The resolution of potential conflict ions between aircraft that are radar identified and in communication with ATC by ensuring that radar targets do not touch. Pertinent traffic advisories shall be issued when this procedure is applied.
(2-1-21)
Issue traffic to all aircraft on your frequency when, in your judgment:
Their proximity may diminish to less than the applicable separation minima.
(5-5-3)
What is target resolution?
A process to ensure that correlated radar targets or digitized targets do not touch
(7-9-5)
Provide mandatory traffic advisories and safety alerts, between:
All aircraft
(2-1-21)
Where no separation minima applies, such as for VFR aircraft outside of Class B/Class C airspace, or TRSA, issue traffic advisories to those aircraft on your frequency when in your judgment:
Their proximity warrants it.
(2-1-21)
What is the format of a traffic advisory?
> azimuth from aircraft in terms of the 12-hour clock or
-when rapidly maneuvering aircraft prevent accurate issuance of traffic as in 1 above, give the direction from an aircraft’s position in terms of the eight cardinal compass points (N, NE, E, etc)
> distance from aircraft in miles
> direction from which traffic is proceeding and/or relative movement of traffic
> if known, type of aircraft and altitude
(2-1-21)
Issue radar vectors to assist in avoiding traffic, provided the aircraft to be vectored is within your area of jurisdiction or coordination has been effected with the sector/ facility in whose area the aircraft is operating when:
Requested by the pilot
(2-1-21)
When radar vectors to avoid traffic are requested by the pilot adn you are unable to do so, what do you do?
Inform the pilot
(2-1-21)
Inform the pilot of what things when traffic you have issued is not reported in sight:
> the traffic is no factor
>the traffic is no longer depicted on radar
(2-1-21)
To aircraft that are not radar identified:
> distance and direction from fix
> direction in which traffic is proceeding
> if known type of aircraft and altitude
> ETA over the fix the aircraft is approaching, if appropriate
(5-5-3)
How much target resolution be applied?
> between the edges of two primary targets or the edges of primary digitized targets
> between the end of the beacon control slash and the edge of a primary target or primary digitized target
> between the ends of two beacon control slashes
