Who was Thucydides?
Thucydides is considered by many to be the greatest historian of all time. He wrote about the Peloponnesian War.
Who was Herodotus?
Herodotus, “Father of History”, wrote about the Persian Wars.
How do historians learn about the past?
They learn about the past through written materials and artifacts. (Objects made or manipulated by humans)
What is the difference between a fact and interpretation?
An interpretation focuses on the “How?” and “Why?”.
What is the difference between a primary source and a secondary source?
A primary source is a written description of an event by an eyewitness or someone who was alive during the Ancient World.
What is archaeology?
It is the study of past people and cultures through their material remains.
What are the two categories of archaeologists?
The two categories are prehistorians, (pre-human) such as paleontologists, and historical archaeologists (written records)
What does the word history mean and where does it come from?
History is the study of past events in human affairs. The word comes from the Greek work meaning “inquiry”.
Is bias always unwanted?
Bias is not always unwanted because sometimes a historian wants to know how the author feels.
