something that reacts to the environment and contains cells
What is the PMC model of life?
program (things like reproduction, e.c.t.), metabolism (taking in and using energy), and container/cell (barrier to protect against the outside)
What is an atom?
the fundamental building block, example: carbon
What is a molecule?
atoms bonded together, example: water
What is an organelle?
structures that do specific jobs, example: nucleus
What is a cell?
smallest unit of being capable of all the life processes, example: white blood cells
What is a tissue?
cells working together to do tasks, example: muscle
What is an organ?
a group of tissues to preform a function, example: heart
What is an organ system?
a group of organs interacting to preform a function, example: nervous system
What is an organism?
an individual living thing that can be multi/uni cellular, example: yeast
What is population?
members of the same species that interact in the same area, example: bullfrogs in the celery bog
What is communtity?
different populations that interact in the same area, example: all living things in a pond
