4.3 Cellular Respiration Flashcards
What is the order of the stages of Cellular Respiration?
starts with glycolysis, link reaction, the kreb’s cycle, then the electron transport chain
What are the inputs and outputs of glycolysis?
inputs: glucose and ADP
outputs: pyruvate and glucose
What are the inputs and outputs of the kreb’s cycle?
inputs: ADP
outputs: CO2 and ATP
What are the inputs and outputs of the electron transport chain?
inputs: ADP and oxygen
outputs: water and a TON of ATP
What is the location of glycolysis?
cytoplasm
What is the location of the link reaction/kreb’s cycle?
mitochondria
What is the location of the electron transport chain?
inner membrane of mitochondria
What is the overall chemical equation of cellular respiration?
C6H12O6 —> 6CO2 + 6H2O
What happens if there is no oxygen in your cell for these processes?
fermentation, there are two types, alcoholic and lactic acid fermentation
What do both types of fermentation have in common?
starts with pyruvate, both occur during lack of oxygen, and both regenerate NAD+
What is the first to shut down due to lack of oxygen?
the electron transport chain stops first then kreb’s cycle gets backed up, glycolysis keeps going only due to fermentation
