What is a cool down and what two stages does it include?
Gradually returns the body to resting state.
Includes an aerobic phase and stretching.
Benefits of the aerobic phase.
Stops blood from pooling in the veins which would cause light headedness.
Removes lactic acid reducing muscle stiffness.
Stretching makes muscles go back to normal and released alignment.
Excercise in winter.
Warm up likely to be longer.
Training might take place in doors to avoid bad weather.
Outdoor training might be cancelled e.g. Icy, rain.
Performers may change footwear.
Injury prevention- body alignment.
Landing- in events like gymnastics. Could damage bones or muscles.
When lifting heavy objects.
Knees bent and back straight.
Technique.
Incorrect technique could result in injury by sudden falls.
Persistent incorrect technique could cause joint or strain damage.
Clothing.
Should not catch on equipment. Ensure performers can see properly. Not flap in opponents face. Allow free movement. Be checked regularly.
5 general precautions.
Appropriate footwear that supports arches and good cushioning. No jewellery No gum Tie hair back Some sports need short nails.
Challenge.
A test of your ability or resources in a challenging situation.
Risk.
The possibility of suffering harm, loss or damage.
Risk assessment.
Takes place before an activity and identifies any potential hazards. All aspects of the environment needs to be considered to ensure all safety of participants.
Risk control.
Participants and those in charge make sure the activity takes place in a safe way once the risk assessment has been completed.
Includes keeping to the rules, checking equipment and having qualified officials and first aid kits.
