What is a genotype?
The combination of alleles for a particular trait
What is a phenotype?
The expression of the genotypes alleles
What is complete dominance?
The dominant allele completely masks the recessive
What is incomplete dominance?
The traits blending to create a third phenotype
What is codominance?
Creates a third phenotype, usually spotted or striped
What does dominant mean?
It will overpower the recessive allele
What does recessive mean?
Its a version of a gene that can skip generations and is overpowered by dominant alleles
What symbol is given to alleles that are dominant?
Capital letters
What symbol is given to alleles that are recessive?
Lower case letters
What does autosome mean?
Any chromosome that doesn’t control your sex (1-22)
What does homozygous recessive mean?
2 recessive alleles
What does homozygous dominant mean?
2 dominant alleles
What does heterozygous mean?
One recessive and one dominant allele
