Information processing Flashcards
What is information processing?
Information processing is where you make decision based on gather information from you senses , such as what you see and hear.
What is input ?
The information received from the display (your senses) via selective attention.
What is decision making ?
The selection of an appropriate response using the information input and comparing the current situation (from you short term memory) to previous similar experiences (from you long term memory)
What is output ?
Information you send to your muscles to carry out the response.
What is feedback ?
A review of your response; this can be from yourself (intrinsic) and/or others (extrinsic)
What is long term memory?
This
is long term information that have been rehearsed and stored for future reference. The more you practice, the more technique is commuted to long-term memory and the better it can be recalled.
What is short-term memory?
This only lasts a few seconds. This is the working
memory you use while actually completing a skill, such as paying attention to your opponent’s position as you catch a ball.
What is selective attention ?
This is focusing on the important information (stimuli). When completing skills there can be a lot of information (stimuli) around you. You have very little time to select the relevant information (such as the speed of a ball) and ignore the irrelevant (such as a noise nearby)
What is an example of information processing ?
Input: see player throw the tennis ball high to serve
Decision making : based in what you see, past experience, decide whether to move.
Output: Move to be ready to return the ball
Feedback:
Was too far forward and return was unsuccessful
