What is a skill ?
A learned action or behaviour with the intention of brining about the expected results, with maximum certainty and minimum outlay of time and energy.
What is an ability ?
An inherited stable trait that determine an individual’s potential to learn or acquire a skill.
What are open skills ?
Open skills are those that are affected by the surrounding environment.
What is an example of an open skill ?
A pass in hockey

What are closed skills ?
Closed skills are not affected by the surrounding environment or the
performers within it.

A basic skill are those that are simple, require little thought, do not need much information to be processed and require little decision making.

A complex skill are those that are difficult, require thought and concentration, require a lot of information to be processed and require a lot of decision making.
What is a self- paced skill ?
A self-paced skill is a skill that is started when the performer decides to start it and the performer controls the speed, rate or pace of the skill.
What is an example of a self-pases skill ?
Serving in tennis
Bowling in cricket
What is an externally paced skill ?
An externally paced skill is started because of an external factor, external factors, such as an opponent control the speed, rate or pace of this skill

A gross skill is a skill that uses big, strong, powerful movements and they involve the use of large muscle groups to perform.

A fine skill is a skill that uses small and precise movement, showing higher levels of accuracy and coordination and they involve the use of a small group of muscles.
