Goal setting Flashcards
What does the acronym SMART stand for ?
S = Specific
M = Measurable
A = Accepted
R = Realistic
T = Time bound
What does the specific mean when goal setting ?
Goals must be specific to the demand of the sport, such as the muscles or movements. For example, to reduce the percentage of unforced errors in my passing from the center third in netball.
What does measurable mean when goal setting ?
In order to know if your goal has been met successfully, it must be something that can be measured. For example, to run 10km 3 seconds faster then my previous best.
What does the accepted mean when goal setting ?
This is a tragedy that is accepted by you and any others involved, such as your coach.
For example, I currently run 100m in 10 seconds. My goal is to run 100m
in 12 seconds. My coach and I both accept we will work to achieve this.
What does realistic when goal setting ?
A realistic goal is one that is possible, given all factors involved. For example, I currently throw the javelin 30m. I am going to start an additional training session each week and it goal is to throw 35m by the end of this season
What does time bound mean when goal setting ?
Goal must be assigned a time frame for completion. My goal is to run 200m in 45 seconds by 4 July this year.
