What is Immunity ?
The way in which an organism protects itself against pathogenic viruses
What are the two main categories of Immunity ?
These Natural Immunity and Acquired Immunity
What is Natural Immunity ?
It is the first line of defence against pathogens that infiltrates the body
What type of Immunity do plants have ?
Plants only have Natural Immunity
What type of Immunity do animals ( humans) have?
Humans have both Natural and Acquired Immunity
What is the body’s first line of defence ?
The first line of defence against pathogens is the external barrier that prevents harmful substances from entering the body
What are the examples of natural immune response that protect the body ?
The examples are coughing, sneezing reflex, action of tears and mucus
What is the second line of defence?
The second line of defence in the body is inflammation and fever
What is the purpose of white blood cells ( leucocytes) ?
Leucocytes recognise the pathogens as foreign cells as soon as they enter the bloodstream, due to the antigens on their cells surface.
What are the two types of Leucocytes?
There are lymphocytes and phagocytes
