Immune Surveillance Flashcards
What do white blood cells release when damage is detected?
Cytokines which attract phagocytes and T cells.
How do white blood cells get to tissue?
By squeezing through capillaries to get to them.
Where do lymphocytes differentiate from?
Bone marrow.
Where do T - lymphocytes mature?
In the thymus.
Where do B - lymphocytes mature?
In the bone marrow.
What does each lymphocyte produce?
One type of antigen receptor.
How is the immune system able to cover each antigen?
There is a huge number of lymphocytes.
What happens to lymphocytes with self antigen receptors?
They are destroyed.
When do lymphocytes clone themselves?
When they bind to a non-self antigen.
What is an antigen?
Any foreign molecule that can elicit an immune response.
