Gradual forgetfulness vs. rapid onset forgetfulness
Gradual = Dementia. Rapid onset = Delirium.
Criteria for diagnosis of dementia
Acquired decline in function, not related to delirium. Affects 2/5: Memory, language, executive function, visuospatial skills, personality/behavior. Severe enough to interfere w/daily, social, or occupational functioning.

Draw a picture. Describe favorite room in the home. Navigate on a blank map. Do you get lost in a neighborhood?
Easy way to assess personality and behavior in demented patients
Ask family if they are acting different? Crude sense of humor? Use your eyes and ears to assess the patient.
