Ice and Rain protection Flashcards
Where are the holdover time charts located?
QRH.
When must the tactile check be accomplished during the walk around?
OAT less than 6C and: visible moisture or water present on the wings or dew point spread less than 3C or atmospheric conditions are conductive to frost.
What kind of anti-ice fluid must be used when operating with ice pellets adhering to the aircraft?
Only undiluted Type IV.
Can the HOT guidelines for the A/I Type IV fluid be used for Ice Pellet operations?
No. an allowance time must be derived from the Ice pellets allowance time tables located on the QRH.
What information must be collected by the captain after deicing/anti-icing occurred?
Fluid type, mix ratio, time when the final application began and employee certifying a clean aircraft.
Is it allowable to be deiced with the engines running?
No.
Is it allowable to use cold forced air for loose snow removal from aircraft surfaces?
Yes; but it doesn’t replace the need for deicing procedures.
Is it allowable to re-initiate a takeoff roll after an aborted takeoff in active ground icing conditions but none expired HOT?
No, the aircraft must be deice and anti-iced again.
Who has ultimate responsibility for determining if the aircraft is free of contamination and complies with the clean aircraft concept?
The PIC
Is takeoff during moderate or heavy freezing rain permited?
No.
What are some indications of anti-icing fluid failure?
The fluid begins to appears opaque rather than transparent and glossy. The fluid is no longer apparent.
Where can the crew find instructions on how to configure the aircraft for de-icing operations?
QRH
