Autoantibody against thyroid receptor for thyroid stimulating hormone - autoantibody is timulating causing continuous secretion of excess T3 and T4
Etiology of Hyperthyroidism (Graves Disease)
Goiter, nervousness, loss of sleep, excessive perspiration, and heat intolerance
Signs and Symptoms of Hyperthyroidism (Graves Disease)
From inflammation of extraccular muscles
Exopthalmos (bulging eyes)
In the form of thickened patches of skin usually on the feet and legs, having “orange skin” texture
Dermopathy
Based on physical manifestations of the disease – a radioimmunoassay that confirms high levels of hormones – presence of antithyroid immunoglobulins in the blood
Diagnosis of Hyperthyroidism (Graves Disease)
Dependent on individuals age, sex, and severity – often includes drugs that block thyroid function – surgery to alter the structure of the thyroid
