One od the most commoon reasons patients seek medical attention - pain in any part of the head, scalp, face and interior of the head
Headache
migrane, cluster headache,, and tension-type
May be primary
dental disorders, viral infections, cffine withdrawl etc
May be secondary
Focuses on determining if a secondary cause is present – If no cause is identified, evaluation should diagnose the primary disorder
Evaluation
Questions about location, duration, severity, onset
History
fever (infection), rhinorrhea (sinusitis), syncope at headache onset (subarachnoid hemorrhage)
Review of systems
Should identify risk factors, eg exposure to drugs, IV drug use
Past medical history
vital signs, general appearance, eyes etc
Physical exam
Altered mental status, weakness, halos around lights (glaucoma), history of cancer, Thunderclap headache (severe that peaks within a few seconds) (subarachnoid hemorrhage
