Can be caused by: hemorrhage, thrombosis or embolism
Often secondary to atherosclerotic disease

Determined by the region of the brain that has lost its blood supply

Impaired consciousness ranging from stupor to coma
Common Symptoms of Cerebrovascular accident (cva or stroke)
Pattern of breathing characterized by a period of apnea lasting 10 to 60 seconds, followed by increasing depth and frequency of respirations
Cheyne-Strokes Respiration
Paralysis affecting only one side of the body
Hemiparesis
Cerebral angiography or EEG, CT
Diagnosis of Cerebrovascular accident (cva or stroke)
Is dependent on the cause (hemorrhagic, thrombotic, etc.)
