HYPERSENSITIVITY TEST Flashcards
Gell and Coombs classification divides hypersensitivity traditionally divides reactions into 4 types which are :
Type I - Anaphylactic
Type II - Cell bound
Type III - Immune complex
Type IV - Delayed hypersensitivity - T cell mediated
Examples of type 1 hyper sent ivory reaction
Anaphylaxis
• Atopy (e.g. asthma, eczema and hayfever)
Type II - Cell bound examples
Autoimmune haemolytic anaemia
• ITP
• Goodpasture’s syndrome
• Pernicious anaemia
• Acute haemolytic transfusion reactions
• Rheumatic fever
• Pemphigus vulgaris / bullous pemphigoid
Type III - Immune complex
SLE
Serum sickness
Post strep glomerulonephritis
Examples of type 4 hypersensitivity ?
T cell mediated
Tuberculosis / tuberculin skin reaction
• Graft versus host disease
• Allergic contact dermatitis
• Scabies
• Extrinsic allergic alveolitis (especially chronic phase)
• Multiple sclerosis
• Guillain-Barré syndrome
Examples of type 5 hypersensitivity ?
Graves’ disease
• Myasthenia gravis
