Stand-alone power packs
Describe the anchor windlass hydraulic system
Oil is taken from a tank to a pump where the oil is pressurised in the system, it then goes through a filter down to a directional control valve which controls the action of lifting or raising, it then goes through an actuator which converts the pressurised energy into mechanical motion. The oil then returns up through the DCV to a cooler unit where it’s cooled, back through another set of filters and back into the tank. The oil pressure is monitored via pressure gauges and there’s a pressure relief valve located between the filters to prevent over pressurisation
What is an actuator and name the types
Linear and rotary, they convert energy to mechanical motion to raise or lower things
