To maintain machinery and equipment to a high standard, following the correct procedures and enforcing a safe practise of work. Machinery should be maintained to work at maximum performance with no faults, if machinery breaks an engineer should be equipped and trained to fix that machinery in a safe, efficient and quick manner. An engineer should be professional in his field and follow the regulations that apply to his role and most importantly follow orders given.

What should an engineer do when on duty?

When an engineer is conducting daily rounds they should inspect the quality of all machinery and report any defects or leaks and amend any faults. The walk on by culture is not tolerated onboard and could breach the safety of all crew members.
