Huskey 12 Foam System: Hydraulic System (pt 2) Flashcards
1
Q
What are the major mechanical parts of the hydraulic system?
A
- Hydraulic gear pump
- Hydraulic oil filter
- Hydraulic oil reservoir
- Hydraulic oil cooler
- Hydraulic manifold block
2
Q
What is this?
What does it do?
A
- Hydraulic Gear Pump
2. powers the foam pump
3
Q
What is this?
What does it do?
A
- Hydraulic oil filter
1. used to filter the pressurized hydraulic loop.
4
Q
What is this?
What is a concern?
A
- Hydraulic Oil Reservoir
(The tank is sufficient size to minimize foaming of the hydraulic fluid and is located to facilitate checking level and adding oil.)
- If the hydraulic reservoir shutoff valve is ever closed, the hydraulic pump should be de-coupled from the water pump or the truck must be taken out of service.
- Failure to do so will result in severe damage to the hydraulic pump.
5
Q
What is this?
What does it do?
A
- Hydraulic Cooler
- an oil-to-water type heat exchanger.
- It takes water directly from the water pump to cool the closed loop hydraulic system.
(The cooling water is then returned to the water pump suction while the cooled
hydraulic oil is returned to the hydraulic tank. The hydraulic cooler allows for continual operation of the Husky 12 hydraulic system.)
6
Q
What is this?
What does it do?
A
- Hydraulic Manifold Block
1. controls the direction of the hydraulic oil flow in the system.
7
Q
How is the foam pump powered?
And when is this turned on?
A
- The hydraulic drive system powers the foam pump
- automatically activated when the water pump is engaged. (This not the case for Huskey 3, where the foam pump is turned on when the button is pressed)
8
Q
How is the hydraulic gear pump powered?
A
- transmission-driven PTO (also could be by Hale pump transmission or Waterous impeller shaft)
