High Rise (pt 1) Flashcards

Q

Steps for standpipe operations (Engineer in stairwell) (pt 1)

A
  1. Check to make sure all valves are closed going up each floor
  2. Connect gated valve; flush standpipe, close gated valve
  3. Connect elbow, PSI gauge, hose [PSI guage must be furthest so that there is less turbulence]
  4. Wait for the call of water and make sure they report number of lengths

Q

Steps for standpipe operations (Engineer in stairwell) (pt 2)

A
  1. Using rods (or other means), set PSI to 100 (hose needs to be attached to set PSI)
  2. Calculate 5psi per section and per floor above
  3. Gate down to proper psi
  4. Communicate that pressure has been set

Q

What do I pump an FDC for standpipe ops?

A

150 + 5/floor

Make sure I do not add first floor

Q

When I am setting my pressure for the FDC, what is something that I need to keep in mind for my discharge gauge?

A
  1. The FDC is probably going to be showing static pressure since there will be no flow when I am setting my pressures
  2. If I’m in throttle/RPM my pressure will decrease when water begins to flow
  3. But don’t change pressures when that happens

Q

When I am setting my FDC pressures, what gauge do I look at?

A
  1. The individual discharge gauge, since there is going to be 10psi difference between master discharge and individuals
