High Rise (pt 1) Flashcards
1
Q
Steps for standpipe operations (Engineer in stairwell) (pt 1)
A
- Check to make sure all valves are closed going up each floor
- Connect gated valve; flush standpipe, close gated valve
- Connect elbow, PSI gauge, hose [PSI guage must be furthest so that there is less turbulence]
- Wait for the call of water and make sure they report number of lengths
2
Q
Steps for standpipe operations (Engineer in stairwell) (pt 2)
A
- Using rods (or other means), set PSI to 100 (hose needs to be attached to set PSI)
- Calculate 5psi per section and per floor above
- Gate down to proper psi
- Communicate that pressure has been set
3
Q
What do I pump an FDC for standpipe ops?
A
150 + 5/floor
Make sure I do not add first floor
4
Q
When I am setting my pressure for the FDC, what is something that I need to keep in mind for my discharge gauge?
A
- The FDC is probably going to be showing static pressure since there will be no flow when I am setting my pressures
- If I’m in throttle/RPM my pressure will decrease when water begins to flow
- But don’t change pressures when that happens
5
Q
When I am setting my FDC pressures, what gauge do I look at?
A
- The individual discharge gauge, since there is going to be 10psi difference between master discharge and individuals
