* Drafting Sequence Flashcards
1
Q
Procedure for setting up to draft?
A
- Remove any Intake Valves (Keystone)
- Connect Hard Suction to intake (Keystone) and Use Rubber Mallet to Insure Air Tight Connections
- Close ALL valves & drains except intake being used
- Place in pump
2
Q
If I am drafting from a natural water source what do I need to do?
A
Use Rope to Keep Strainer off Bottom (natural water sources only)
24” Above Bottom
24” Below Surface
3
Q
Procedure for drafting?
A
- Keep in throttle mode
- Increase throttle to between 1000-12000 RPM
- Activate priming pump for 30-45 seconds (if a prime has not been achieved in this time period, the priming attempt should be stopped & problem traced)
4
Q
What should you be watching to make sure a draft is successful?
A
- Listen for change in sound
- Look for water discharge from priming pump under truck
- Watch discharge pressure gauge
5
Q
Once I have achieved the draft what do I do?
A
- Immediately, but slowly open the discharge (any discharge, even just a dump line or the tank fill) & set the correct pump pressure
- Ensure prime is not lost by ensuring that water is moving through the pump
- Switch from throttle to pressure
6
Q
If I fail to achieve prime after 45 seconds, what should I do?
A
- open tank to pump to get out water
- Throttle up to 1000-1500
- Simultaneously, close tank to pump, while opening a discharge, and activating the primer the entire time
- If I still fail to achieve prime I need to go back and check all the seals (make sure all discharges, drains, connections are closed, take off the other keystone and cap it)
7
Q
What is an important rule of thumb for achieving prime?
A
10-20-30 rule
- No more than 10feet above the source
- No more that 20feet of hard suction hose (they come in 10 foot sections)
- It should not take more than 30 seconds to achieve prime
