Client centred therapy (Rogers) what are the three principles the therapy is based on?
- Therapist is congruent with client : genuine and not offensive.
- therapist provides unconditional positive regard : make the client feel accepted.
- Therapist shows empathy to client: understand the subjective experiences and perceptions
2 strengths:
- recognises the importance of conscious experience & what people think and feel.
- it’s optimistic about people, looks to the future in terms of personal growth.
2 limitations:
- ignored mental processes that do not take place at conscious level.
- terminology is not clearly defined and therefore not easily testable.
Hierarchy of needs: the higher up the hierarchy of needs the more…
The need is linked to life experience and less to biology.
