Human Reproduction Flashcards
Which two crucial body parts are used to make fertilisation successful
Penis and vagina
What are gametes
They are the two sex cells that come together to form an organism.
Where does a sperm cell meet an egg cell meet
During fertilisation the cilia on an egg cell wafts the egg cell along inside the oviduct to the uterus where the semen meets the egg cell and fertilisation will occur.
How do sperm cells and egg cells meet
An egg is released from the ovary usually between the 10th and 16 th day of a woman’s Menstrual cycle and if just one Sperm manages to meet it there is a potential chance of fertilisation.
What happens when fertilisation occurs
The egg cell divides several times to form balls of cells called an embryo. The embryo then attaches itself to the lining of the uterus known as implantation.
What are the 6 main parts of the male reproductive system
The 6 main parts of the male reproductive system are testes, scrotum, sperm duct, prostate gland, urethra and the penis.
What are the roles of these different reproductive body parts?
Penis - where semen is ejaculated from, sperm duct - contains and carries sperm from the testes, scrotum - allows sperm to ejaculate out from the penis into the vagina, prostate glands - responsible for producing semen, urethra -
Responsible for releasing urine and controls what fluids exit the body through the penis, testes - the sack which Carries two organs which carry sperm.
What are the 6 main parts of the female reproductive system
Vagina, uterus, oviduct, urethra, cervix, ovary
What are the roles of each of these reproductive body parts
Vagina - where a man will put his penis to start intercourse and also where a baby comes out of, uterus - where the embryo is kept and developed during the course of pregnancy, oviduct - carries the egg cell over from the ovary, urethra - (found in both men and woman) carries urine and other liquids from the body and controls the flow of them, cervix - entrance to the uterus hence holding a baby in place, ovary - releases egg cells every month based on a woman’s menstrual cycle.
What does the placenta do?
It allows nutrients to enter the foetus from the mother and waste products to leave the foetus.
What is the name for the part of the sex cells where the genetic material (chromosomes) are located?
Nucleas
