Biology - Genetic Engineering Flashcards
What do genetically modified have resistance against?
Insect attacks or herbicides producing a higher yield.
What is genetic engineering?
Where genes can be transferred to the cells of animals and plants at an early stage of their development so they develop their desired characteristics.
What happens to the chromosomes in genetic engineering?
Genes from the chromosomes are cut out using enzymes and are transferred to the cells of the bacteria and other organisms using a vector - usually a bacterial plasmid of virus
For what disease does insulin need to be produced artificially?
Diabetes
Which gene is cut out of human chromosome?
Insulin
What is used to open up the DNA of bacterium?
The sane enzyme as before
What does GM stand for
Genetically modified
