Biology - Respiration Flashcards
What is anaerobic respiration?
Respiration without oxygen
Equation for anaerobic respiration (summary)
Glucose + oxygen -> Co2 + water
What is cellular respiration , how would it occur in someone’s cells?
An exothermic reaction within the cells
What does the energy transfer in aerobic respiration supply?
All the energy required for cells and processes within the cells to keep an organism living
Effects of exercise on respiration + why
Respiration increases as the breathing rate increases as more oxygen needs to be pumped and delivered to muscles
Comparison pf aerobic and anaerobic respiration;
Aerobic respiration includes oxygen but anaerobic doesn’t anaerobic builds up lactic acid in muscles using glucose and not oxygen aerobic produces carbon dioxide and water from respiration using oxygen
Comparison of anaerobic respiration in animals, bacteria and yeast;
Anaerobic respiration produces lactic acid in bacterial cells within the humans and animals. Yeast cells produce both carbon dioxide and ethanol.
