HRM objectives Flashcards
HRM objectives
An objective set by the HR department which will help achieve the overall business aims & objectives
Evaluate the usefulness of setting this HR objective to Sports Direct. (9).
- K - It is useful because it creates a focus that reduces likelihood of Sports Direct breaching HR laws again.
- App - Searches in the past have lead to staff not being (effectively) paid the national minimum wage.
- Dev - The focus created by this objective will lead to procedures being changed. This will ensure that staff are paid for all of the time that they are at work and reduce the likelihood of costly grievances.
- Eval - However, it is only useful if action is taken i.e. procedures are changed in response to the objective being set and that managers in charge of search respond to these procedure changes. Merely setting an objective will not prevent law breaches. It is probable that paper based exercise of objective setting could be completed with no follow up, or that managers continue to operate in the same way. This would eliminate any potential value of setting this objective
Why are HR objectives important?
- They make sure that the HR departments objectives are aligned with the overall business objectives, therefore ensuring that they are working on tasks that are likely to help achieve those overall business aims and objectives.
- they are important as people are the most important factor of any business and they affect every aspect & functional activity of the business.

- so employees are focused.
- so that there is no confusion amongst employees about the activities they should be undertaking.
- employees feel more motivated.
- time is not wasted as a result of miscommunication of objectives.
- so that it is easy to compare actual progress with the objective that was set.

the usefulness of human resource management objectives to a business and its stakeholders.
Human resources can help the organization monitor its progress toward achieving its stated goals and objectives in the strategic plan. Much of the strategic plan is likely to rely on the cooperation and support of employees, external groups of people (e.g. the general public) and individual departments or functions within the organization.
