HRM Antineoplastics Flashcards
Goserelin
GnRH analogue causes initial jump in FSH, LH, flare in cancer growth. Long term causes decreased receptors in pituitary and decreased hormones.
Leuprolide
GnRH analogue causes initial jump in FSH, LH, flare in cancer growth. Long term causes decreased receptors in pituitary and decreased hormones.
Aminoglutethimide
nonsteroidal competitive aromatase inhibitor. prevents formation of estrogens.
AE: N/V fever, headache, adrenal insufficency.
Anastrozole
reversible nonsteroidal competitive aromatase inhibitor Prevents formation of estrogens.
AE: N/V, hot flashes, decreased bone density, increased appetite, polyarthralgia.
Letrozole
reversible nonsteroidal competitive aromatase inhibitor Prevents formation of estrogens.
AE: N/V, hot flashes, decreased bone density, increased appetite, polyarthralgia.
Tamoxifen
Competitive Estrogen receptor antagonist. benefit up to 5 years in ER+ tumors. AE: hot flashes, N/V, ENDOMETRIAL cancer
Toremifine
Competitive estrogen receptor antagonist
AE: hot flashes, N/V, ENDOMETRIAL cancer
Abiraterone Acetate
17a hydroxylase inhibitor. blocks conversion of pregnenolone and progesterone into 17a hydroxy forms preventing the formation of androgens and estrogens.
tx. metastatic prostate cancers.
Degarelix
GNRH antagonist, causes immediate decrease in FSH, LH, T/E. No flare in response. generally well tolerated.
Dutasteride
competitive 5 a reductase inhibitor. Decreases DHT production. treats BPH, Male pattern baldness, prevents prostate CA.
AE: impotentce, teratogenic.
Exemestane
Suicide “steroidal” Aromatase inhibitor. prevents conversion of androgens to estrogens.
Finasteride
competitive 5 a reductase inhibitor. Decreases DHT production. treats BPH, Male pattern baldness, prevents prostate CA.
AE: impotentce, teratogenic.
Flutamide
antiandrogen, causes decreased androgen binding, and prevents translocation of receptor. leads to feedback increase in Testosterone, but no receptor available.
AE: short term admin in combo with GNRH analog to treat flare., N/V, diarrhea, sexual dysfunction, hot flashes, hepatotoxicity.
Nalutamide
antiandrogen, causes decreased androgen binding, and prevents translocation of receptor. leads to feedback increase in Testosterone, but no receptor available.
AE: short term admin in combo with GNRH analog to treat flare., N/V, diarrhea, sexual dysfunction, hot flashes, hepatotoxicity.
Raloxifene
Estrogen receptor antagonist in breast and uterus, agonist in bone, no risk of endometrial cancer.
AE: hot flashes, N/V,
