Taylor motivation theory
- financially based
- monitored and observed workforce to find the best way to do jobs, outline this to the workforce
- employees will be paid by how much they produce
- however it doesn’t cover other ways for motivation relies only on financial ways
Mayo motivation theory
-was a firm believer of Taylor motivation theory
- tested physical factors like: heat, light, breaks however came to realisation that the most productivity was with optimum social facotrs
-social factors included- teamwork, communication, inovlning others in decision making
Herzberg motivation theory
two factors of hygiene and motivators
- hygiene didn’t increase motivation but if they were not to be optimum then they could causes demotivation
-hygiene examples- pay, environment and relationships
- motivators were things that increased motivation
- motivators examples- promotion, self improvement, job enlargement
Maslow motivation theory
- statges were - fianncial, health and safety, socail factors, recognition, self fulfillemt
-peoples needs ar4e differnt for motivating
Vroom expectancy theory
- expectancy ( better performance)
-instrumentality ( belief f rewards if performance is high
-valance ( belief of actually getting the reward)
Porter and Lawler expectancy theory
the gain of extrinsic and intrinsic rewards
financial motivators
piece work- pay employee by pieces of work that they produce
commission- reward workers bonuses on sales that they make
bonuses- loyalty, sales, output
profit sharing
performance related pay- use appraisals or reviews to set targets, if target is achieved then bonus should be granted
non financial motivators
delegation- give out more complex/ variety of tasks to stimulate workers
consultation- involve workers in decision making
flexible working- more trust, work life balance, more loyal
teamworking- work better with others and social aspects with others that have the same goals
empowerment
-job enrichment- give more challenging tasks to stimulate workers
- job rotation - gain new experience and skills to become more valuable
job enlargement- similar activities as tasks already given to workers
