HPV Flashcards
HPV characteristics
Most common viral infxn of the reproductive tract
Icosahedral circular dsDNA
Viral protein L2
Forms microscopic koilocytes
- *VPL2
- escorts genomic DNA to nucleus of cell to integrate
Symptoms of HPV
Warts
Cancer
Respiratory Papillomatosis
Classifications of HPV warts
Genital- cauliform-like on vulva, vagina, anal, penis, scrotum (most common manifestation)
Common-rough, raised bumps on upper limb
Plantar-hard, grainyon feet
Flat- flat but raised lesions on skin
Target cells of HPV:
squamous epithelium of skin and mucous membrane
HPV entry
Abrasions in skin into the basal layer
Unsuppressed oncogene for stabilization of epidermal growth factor receptor (immune evasion)
E5
Binds to p53 which regulates cell layer and growth and degrades it
E6
Binds and inactivates p105rb (retinoblastoma protein) which prevents excessive cellular growth
E7
Lab diagnosis
Genital warts presence
Acetic acid test- (+) white coloration
Pap test- cervical smears fixed with alcohol and ether
Antigen and Nucleic acid detection test- obsolete
PCR- GOLD STANDARD, able to detect most HPV types
Types of vaccine
Bivalent (Cervarix)- 16+ 18
Quadrivalent (Quadrasil)- 16 18 11 6
9-valent-
