Allocated $500 million for low-income housing and Section 8
Housing Act of 1949
First Comprehensive Housing Legislation. Led to the construction of 800,000 units. Emphasized slum clearance.
Housing Act of 1954
Expanded upon the 1949 act, creating the 701 program, making deteriorating areas eligible for slum clearance. Gave funding to Cities of <25,000 population.

Federal matching funds for Comprehensive Plans
Housing Act of 1961
Subsidized nonprofits and public agencies for public housing construction
Demonstration Cities and Metropolitan Development Act
Passed in 1966. Provided financial incentives for open spaces, water supply, and mass transit. Model Cities Program and “New Communities” development.
