Homeostais and response Flashcards
What is Homeostasis
Homeostasis is baout maintaining an optimum internal environment in the body.
What are the four key features to a good control system?
Stimulus,receptors,coordination centre, effectors
What two systems are involved in the coordination and control of the internal environment?
1) The nervous system
2) The hormonal system
Homeostasis needs to happen in response to internal and external changes?
- Blood sugar levels
- Body temperature
- pH of blood
- Carbon dioxide levels
- Blood volume
Nervous system pathway
Stimulus Receptor cells Sensory neurone Coordinator Motor neurone Effectors
Which sense organ detects which stimulus:
Skin-Pressure and temperature Nose-Chemical smell Eyes-Light waves Tongue Chemical touch Ear-Soundwaves
what do the receptor cells do?
The receptor cells in our sense organs covert various stimuli into electrical impulses. These impulses are the transmitted through the nervous system.
Sense organs
Skin
Ear
Nose
Eye
Coordinators
Brain
Spinal cord
Effectors
Salivary glands
Pancreas
Skeletal muscles
What is the difference between the structure of the sensory and motor neurone?
The motor neurone have their cell body and nucleus towards the front of the cell while the sensory neurone has its cell body and nucleus in the middle of the cells
