B8-Photosythesis Flashcards
Equation for photosynthesis.
Carbon dioxide + water –> oxygen + glucose
Balanced equation for photosythesis
6CO2 + 6H2O –> 6O2 + C6H12O6
Why do plants use cellulose?
To strengthen their cell walls.
What do they use nitrates for?
They combine nitrates with sugars to make amino acid
What do plants use lipids for?
They use it as a source if energy.
One adaptations of a leaf
They are broad to give them a bigger surface area, allowing more sunlight to fall on
Another adaptation
They are thin so diffusion distances for the gases are short
Adaptation of leaf
They contain chlorophyll in the chloroplasts that absorb light.
They have guard cells that open and close the stomata to regulate gas exchange
Adaptation of leaf(veins)
They have veins, which bring plenty if water in the xylem to the cells of the leaves and remove products of photosynthesis in the phloem.
Adaptation of leaf(air space)
They have air spaces that allow carbon dioxide to get to the cells, and oxygen to leave by diffusion.
