Histology Flashcards
What is the tunica intima made of?
Single layer of squamous epithelial cells (endothelial cells)
Supported by basal Latina and thin layer of connective tissue
What is tunica media made of?
Predominantly muscle (Sometimes elastic tissue)
What is the tunica adventitia made of?
Supporting connective tissue
What are the 3 types of capillaries?
Continuous capillaries (muscle, lung, skin, nerves) Fenestrated capillaries (mucosa of gut, endocrine, glomeruli of kidneys) Discontinuous capillaries (liver, spleen, bone marrow)
Three layers of the heart?
Endocardium
Myocardium
Epicardium
What is the endocardium made of?
Endothelium
Basal lamina
Thin layer of collagen fibres
Layer of denser connective tissue
What is the myocardium made of?
Muscle fibres
How many nucleus’ do cardiac muscle cells have?
1
What is the role of intercalated discs in cardiac cells?
Attach cells together
What is the epicardium made of?
Single layer of flattened epithelium (mesothelium)
Basal lamina
Fibroelastic connective tissue
3 layer structure of blood vessels
Tunica intima
Tunica media
Tunica adventitia
