Hip Joint Flashcards
What is the definition of the Hip joint?
Also named the Coxal joint, It is a Ball and Socket joint formed by the head of the Femur and the Acetabulum of the coxal bone.
What are the Anatomical components of the Hip joint?
1: Articular Capsule
2: Iliofemoral Ligament
3: PuboFemoral Ligament
4: IschioFemoral Ligament
5: Ligament of the head of the Femur
6: Acetabular Labrum
7: Transverse ligament of the Acetabulum
What are the types of movements the Hip joint can perform?
The Hip joint allows for:
Flexion, Extension, adduction, abduction and Circumduction of the Thigh.
Why are dislocations of the Femur so rare?
This is because of the Acetabular Labrum, It enhances the depth of the Acetabulum and in result Dislocation is rare.
Where is the Articular Capsule of the Hip joint located?
It is a very strong and dense capsule that Extends from the Rim of the Acetabulum to the Neck of the Femur.
What is one of the strongest structures in the body when you include its accessory ligaments?
The Articular capsule of the Hip / Coxal joint.
What is the IlioFemoral ligament and where is it located?
This is a Thickened portion of the Articular Capsule that Extends from the AIIS to the Inter-trocantic line of the Femur.
What is the IlioFemoral ligament and where is it located?
This is a Thickened portion of the Articular Capsule that Extends from the AIIS to the Inter-trocantic line of the Femur.
What is the IlioFemoral Ligament used for?
It is there to prevent Hyper extension of the femur when standing.
And the strongest ligament in the body.
What is the PuboFemoral Ligament and where is it located?
This is a Thickened portion of the Articular Capsule and Extends from the Pubic part of the Acetabulum to the Neck of the Femur.
What in the Hip joint are thickened portions of the Articular Capsule?
IlioFemoral ligament, PuboFemoral ligament, IschioFemoral Ligament.
What is the IschioFemoral Ligament and where is it located?
This is a Thickened portion of the Articular Capsule, It Extends from the Ischial Wall boarding the Acetabulum to the Neck of the Femur.
What is the IschioFemoral Ligament used for?
It slackens during Adduction, Tenses during Abduction and strengthens the articular Capsule.
What is the IschioFemoral Ligament used for?
It slackens during Adduction, Tenses during Abduction and strengthens the articular Capsule.
What and where is the Ligament of the Head of the Femur?
This is a Flat triangular band, Extends from the Fossa of the Acetabulum to the Fovea capitis of Head of the Femur and has a Artery that supplies the Femur.
