Heredity 7 Societies DNA Forensics (Lecture 13) Flashcards
DNA Profiles
A DNA fingerprint or profile of an individual is produced by evaluating the variation in the short tandem repeats (STR)
2 methods- DNA Profiles
- RFLPs- restriction fragment length polymorphism
2. PCR- Polymerase Chain Reaction
DNA profile for 3 People
1 DNA is extracted from cells belonging to three different people
2 Each sample is
cut with a specific restriction enzyme
Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR)
- Developed in 1986, Kary Mullis- Nobel Prize
- Amplifies DNA
